Floyd Mayweather Stripped of WBO Title

The WBO Welterweight title is now vacant.

Due to Mayweather not complying with WBO rules, he was stripped of the title on Monday. Mayweather did not pay the $200,000 sanctioning fee that was needed.

“The WBO world championship committee is allowed no other alternative but to cease to recognize Mr. Floyd Mayweather Jr. as the WBO welterweight champion of the world and vacate his title for failing to comply with our WBO regulations of world championship contests,” were the words written in a resolution given by the WBO.

Mayweather is undefeated and unified the welterweight titles after his bout against Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd earlier this year.

Prior to his fight with Pacquiao, Mayweather held the junior middleweight title, violating the WBO rules in which a fighter cannot have titles in different weight classes.

Mayweather has 14 days to appeal the decision.
