It’s ON! Gennady Golovkin Will Fight David Lemieux!!

About time GGG got a worthy opponent!

Both Golovkin and Lemieux announced on Twitter that they will both fight for a Middleweight Title unification in Madison Square Garden in New York on October 17. The fight will air on HBO PPV.

Golovkin is both the WBA and IBO Middleweight champion while Lemieux is the IBF Middleweight Champion.

Needless to say, I am pleasantly surprised. I was actually expecting Lemieux to fight other fighters just to make some extra money off his title since he just won it. I’m glad he proved me wrong. Him going against Golovkin is a bit of a shocker, but I’m glad Lemieux is going through with it. I actually cheered out loud when I saw the announcement on their Twitter accounts.

This is what boxing fans, old and new, deserve to see. Boxers who are willing to fight even the toughest opponent and risk it all. No ducking and no making excuses. We deserve match ups that are worth watching.

Golovkin is a great fighter, but it was really tiresome to see him go against fighters that weren’t that much of a challenge. Going against Lemieux is a great match up and he’s someone that can finally give Golovkin a good challenge – and a good “Drama Show”!
