Ronda Rousey became the first MMA fighter to be featured on the cover of The Ring magazine. The Ring magazine posted the photo on their Instagram, only to receive negative feedback from fans in their comments.
But, Ronda has received support from the boxing community.
Zachary Ochoa, whose boxing record is 13-0-6 KO’s, was quick to jump on Ronda’s defense. He tweeted:
For the record, MMA has elements of boxing in it anyway. Boxing is pretty much MMA’s granddaddy.
Rousey is also the highest paid fighter in the UFC. She’s more than just an athlete. She also happens to be a positive role model. In a day and age where we have our youth being geared towards superficiality, we have Rousey who enforces the idea of hard work, confidence (albeit, it may come off as arrogance to some), and positive body image (we have minors who are on television going under the knife).
So, my fellow boxingheads, I ask that we not get upset just because we have a UFC fighter on the cover of The Ring magazine. Stay classy, my friends.
