Will Mayweather come out of retirement and fight the middleweight super champion, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin?
According to him, he would. Under one condition though: Golovkin has to call out Andre Ward, fight him, and beat him.
Mayweather told FightHype.com:
“When you hear stuff about Triple G, like I said before, I told Triple G what he had to do if he wants a fight with me. He’s gotta call out Andre Ward, beat Andre Ward, and then I’ll fight him. I haven’t seen him call out Andre Ward yet.”
Many believe that Mayweather will come out of retirement regardless.
Abel Sanchez, Golovkin’s trainer, notes that while Mayweather seems to have a “fixation” on Golovkin, he believes that Mayweather may actually be setting things up for a come back, whether or not it is against Triple G:
“He is saying things about a comeback, he just seems to be fixated on Golovkin. I’ve seen three or four pieces in the last couple of weeks where he’s talking about beating Golovkin, it looks like he’s laying the ground work for something, whether it’s Golovkin or somebody else. Floyd’s laying the ground works for a comeback.”
So, unless Triple G fights and beats Ward, Mayweather has no interest on coming out of retirement and fighting him.
Nonetheless, if they fought, Mayweather is confident that he would be able to beat him:
“Triple G, not being disrespectful, but he’s straight up and down, no special effects. That’s easy work.”
